cv giving day
added april 30, 2026
CV Giving Day is the Coachella Valley's coordinated philanthropy campaign — early giving opens in February and momentum builds across roughly thirty days toward a single climax on the first Tuesday of March, when corporate partners, foundation gifts, and donor-advised funds release in concert. The model is deliberately simple: donor contributions go directly to the nonprofit of the donor's choice, and corporate and foundation partners fund prize pools awarded to participating nonprofits during the event. Desert Community Foundation underwrites the platform, which is why 100% of donor gifts reach the nonprofit rather than being diluted by operating costs. CV Giving Day is also an official member of the Giving Tuesday Leadership Council, which puts it inside the national network of community giving programs serious enough to commit to governance and shared practice.
Disclosure: CV Giving Day is an initiative of Desert Community Foundation. See the DCF entry for the full AICV/SunshineFM relationship context.
questions
When is CV Giving Day?
CV Giving Day 2027 is March 2 — always the first Tuesday of March. Early giving opens February 2, 2027, and momentum builds across the thirty days that follow toward the climax, when corporate partners, foundation gifts, and donor-advised funds release in concert. A kick-off event happens in late January. Nonprofit registration for the following year opens in early November the year before. Future-year dates are at cvgivingday.org.
How big is CV Giving Day?
Since 2023 the campaign has raised millions of dollars for more than a hundred participating valley nonprofits, and has crossed the million-dollar threshold in a single year. The more meaningful signal is structural: every credible valley nonprofit participates, every dollar a donor gives reaches the nonprofit they chose, and Desert Community Foundation underwrites operating costs entirely. CV Giving Day is an official member of the Giving Tuesday Leadership Council, which puts it inside the national governance framework for community giving rather than running alongside it. Year-by-year totals are at cvgivingday.org.
Where does the money actually go, and how is that verified?
Every donor gift goes to the participating nonprofit of the donor's choice — 100%, less credit card processing fees that donors can elect to cover. Corporate and foundation partners (California Bank & Trust, RAP Foundation / NPO Centric, the Auen Foundation) fund prize pools awarded during the event. The event's operating costs are underwritten entirely by Desert Community Foundation, which is a 501(c)(3) with public annual reports, independent audit, and board oversight — meaning the flow of funds is verifiable, not just claimed.
How does a founder or startup get involved beyond just donating?
Three meaningful paths, each more leveraged than personal giving. (1) Become a corporate partner — your company commits to a sponsorship tier and gets visibility during the event, which engages your employees, investors, and peer network to give alongside you. (2) Underwrite a prize pool — corporate and foundation partners fund the prize pools awarded to nonprofits, which is how the event creates upside beyond direct giving. (3) Activate your personal network during the climax day — angels, operators, and founders who treat CV Giving Day as the moment to rally their LPs, portfolio companies, and team into local philanthropy turn a $5K personal gift into $50K of network giving. “One day a year, every credible nonprofit in the valley is participating. If you give locally at all, give that day.”
